In attendance:

Krista, Jennifer H, Leslie, Wendy, Sonja, Maureen, Leah K, Kate, Colleen, Becki B, Aaron, Brad.

Scheduling Meetings

  • Meet as a district, but should start meeting as building PBIS.
  • Invite Nicole or Kate, or include on notes, but don’t need to be in attendance at every meeting.
  • Next year: quarterly as big group, monthly should be small group.
  • Combining Character Ed. and PBIS?

“Data Wall”

  • Displaying tickets in ES by grade or classroom.
  • Want to steer away from another award, already have tickets and BINGO boards.
  • Not a competition.

Character Ed. vs. PBIS

  • Character words are not PBIS
  • If you want to use these words, use them as Waterloo Way Word of the Month, could give tickets for students exhibiting this behavior.
  • Coordinate for next year, keep committees the same for the rest of this year.

HS

  • Brad and Kate will discuss the ODR form and kick it off soon.
  • Make sure PBIS committee is on the same page and positive about it.
  • There are reasons why we need to collect the data.
  • Direct questions to members of the PBIS committee.

IS//MS

  • Buckets in rooms, send down to the office weekly to help with turning tickets in.

Food Drive

  • The Food Drive was very successful again this school year.
  • We took about 16 students to the food pantry to deliver the boxes we collected.
  • We did not have a final count, but in the IS/MS alone, the grades raised almost 900 food items.
  • Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative and helped make it a huge success! We took about 16 students to the food pantry to deliver the boxes we collected.

January 18, 2016--Meeting Notes

Building Updates

Elementary School

  • Captains Crew has begun. The group is smaller this year, with one student representative from each class. The group meets monthly and has a discussion about one of the character words. They take back and activity to their class for everyone to participate in.
  • Teacher Leaders have been sending out monthly videos to go along with the activities to share with the students.
  • There have been monthly displays in which all students do a short writing activity and post it on a display by the office.

Intermediate/Middle School

  • Hallway decorations amongst our advisories are still going on. The current theme is about "Start with 1 Thing" which is geared toward educating our students about how their every move affects the earth. Students are pledging to do 1 thing to help change the world.
  • 5th grade students will be participating in the Kindness Retreat put on by Youth Frontiers on February 10th.
  • Mrs. Sale's class is going to work with Mrs. Schneider's kindergarten class on creating small appreciations for various members of the school staff around Valentines Days.
  • Read aloud is continuing weekly during advisory. Our current book is Mockingbird, which is about a young girl who has Asperger's and has experienced a life changing event...her brother was killed in a local school shooting. She is learning, along with some other kids, how to deal and cope with tragedy.

High School

  • DRIVEN is continuing to plan monthly Character Ed. activities/lessons for WEBS classes to participate in.
  • DRIVEN held a "DRIVEN Week" before Winter Break. The week was filled with dress-up days, games during lunch, and a Toy Drive. The goal was to raise 130 gifts, and they ended up raising 131 toys for Christmas Neighbors in Jefferson.
  • DRIVEN is planning a Random Acts of Kindness week between February 14-20. Students will receive a calendar of ideas for each day in February and are challenged to complete 14 out of the 29 random acts throughout the month.

District Wide

  • The Character Shuffle is set for Friday May 27th. Students and staff will again participate in a 5K Run/Walk. Staff will have to purchase shirts for $5.00 or $6.00.
  • Letters have been sent out to local businesses for monetary donations for the Run/Walk. PTO is another group that we could talk to for a donation.

**Our next meeting will be Monday April 11 at 3:30 in the HS LMC to discuss building updates and last minutes needs for the Character Shuffle.
