Fitness Center Rules and Regulations

General Use

  • All patrons must have valid membership & emergency form on file with the Fitness Center
  • Proper ID (Day Pass, Punch Pass, Membership card) must be presented to Fitness Center personal prior to working out.
  • All individuals work out at their own risk.
  • Patrons should place all belongings in a cubby or in a locker. Waterloo Fitness Center staff nor Waterloo School District are responsible for lost or stolen articles
  • Lockers are available in the general locker room.
  • Due to personal safety, safety of others including the staff, hygiene, and maintaining the life of the equipment the following regulations are in place:
    • Absolutely no unsupervised lifting.
    • Proper Dress Includes:
      • Appropriate attire includes T-shirts with sleeves, athletic shorts, sweats, and athletic shoes (closed toe and heal).
      • Inappropriate attire includes jeans, baseball hats, dress or open toe shoes or boots.
    • Patrons should observe proper spotting procedures and lifting techniques.
    • Collars must be used on all free weight lifts.
  • Food, drink (other than water), and tobacco products are not allowed in the weight room.
  • Patrons are required to clean up after themselves (i.e. return weights when finished, clean-up chalk or baby powder, and wipe down machines after use).
  • Report any damaged or broken equipment to Weight Room Supervisor.
  • Fitness Center employees reserve the right to implement additional rules and regulations to ensure the safety of the patrons and those around them.
  • Waterloo Fitness Center reserves the right to revoke privileges to anyone who refuses to comply with the policies

Student Use

Students, age 13 or older, may use the fitness center between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with out paying a fee. A student under the 13 years of age may use the fitness center during the above listed hours, without paying a fee, if he/she is accompanied by a fee paying adult supervisor.

Health and Physical Education Teachers

Health and physical education teachers who want to use the fitness center during the school day to teach their curriculum shall:

  1. Make advance arrangements with the Director and
  2. Provide supervision during their classroom’s use.

In-Season Coaches

In-season coaches who want their team to use the fitness center during regular hours of operation shall:

  1. Give advance notice to the Director,
  2. Provide coach-supervision at all time during team use,
  3. Limit the number student-athletes using the fitness center to ten (10) and
  4. Ensure that all team members leave the fitness center with the coach.

In-season coaches who want their team to use the fitness center outside the regular hours of operation shall:

  1. Make advance arrangements with the Director and
  2. Provide coach-supervision at all time during team use.

Out-of-season coaches

Out-of-season coaches who volunteer their time to open the fitness center for expanded student use outside of the regular hours of operation shall:

  1. Make advance arrangements with the Director,
  2. Expand the hours on a regular basis,
  3. Open the center to all students, to avoid violation of WIAA out-of-season practice restrictions and
  4. 4. Provide supervision at all time during student use.

Except for use, as specified above, students shall pay the approved fee for use of the fitness center. Student athletes who do not leave when the coach-supervisor leaves will be expected to pay the approved fee.

Employee Use

Employees of the Waterloo School District with current CPR/First Aid certification may volunteer to supervise the fitness center from 6:00 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. or from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, for one week to receive an individual 1-Year Pass or for two weeks to receive two 1-Year Passes. In all other circumstances, except for use in conjunction with a teaching or in-season coaching assignment, employees of the Waterloo School District shall pay the approved fee for use of the fitness center.

Fitness Center Supervisors

Individuals who are employed to work as fitness center supervisors shall receive CPR/First Aid training and instruction on the proper use of fitness center equipment. The District shall waive the use fee for any fitness center supervisor who works an average of at least seven (7) hours per week. The District shall provide a discounted annual pass for any fitness center supervisor who works an average of at least four (4) hours but less than seven (7) hours per week by dividing the average hours by seven (7). (ie. – average of five hours per week = 5/7 or 71% of the annual pass fee.)
