PBIS

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports, and our school has implemented a PBIS plan for how to best model and reinforce the Waterloo Way: Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn. Reinforcing what good traits look like helps our students be successful socially and academically.

High School students have monthly character lessons for all students organized by the Driven Team. A quarter of the school is in the Driven Team, a student-led character education team which also meets on a monthly basis. These students promote positivity by doing activities for days like World Kindness Day and events during Random Acts of Kindness Week. Annually, Driven supports 8th graders in their transition to High School. This year, Driven organized Caps for the Cure fundraiser to help fund cancer research.

At the Intermediate / Middle School, students can earn pirate coins that can be used at the Waterloo Way store to buy earbuds, bags, stress balls, and other school-related items and to enter a drawing for gift cards. Pirate coins are handed out to students who are demonstrating the expected behavior. Quarterly incentives like field trips to movies, roller skating, dance parties, Rock n Jump, and ice skating celebrate student successes.

Elementary students earn Golden Tickets by demonstrating the Waterloo Way. Golden Tickets are chosen at random and the winning students can then pick from a prize bin. Captain's Crew focuses on a different character trait each month, and student leaders plan school activities. This year, Captain's Crew will do the Kindness Rocks Project in order to promote kindness in the school and community. Classrooms earn incentives by completing bingo boards for following the expected behavior such as walking quietly in the hallway. Classrooms also earn quarterly incentives like field days, Minute to Win It games, a pool party, and a dance party.
