Principal's Message
Welcome to Waterloo Elementary School!
With more than 325 eager students and over 25 highly qualified and committed staff members that walk through our doors every morning- our goal is for students to grow both academically and socially. Waterloo Elementary is a great place for all students to learn, always striving to be better each day!
In each classroom, we have updated resources and materials that reflect current educational standards and engage students. We also have lots of access to technology. Each classroom is equipped with a SMART Board, and each grade has carts of iPads, Chromebooks, or laptops for various applications, practice, and research. Even our related-arts classes, such as PE, offer special units that kids love: rollerblading, rock climbing, snowshoeing, swimming starting at 4th grade, and so forth.
Here at Waterloo Elementary School, our staff meets on a regular basis in order to ensure that the needs of each individual student are being met. Students in Waterloo Elementary School get to learn in updated classrooms that all have SMART Boards, access to iPad carts, and other instructional resources to improve student learning.Staff examine data from STAR assessments that are given in the fall, winter, and spring. Based on this data instruction in differentiated to meet the needs of students. Small groups is a common strategy that teachers use to ensure all students are able to learn to the best of their abilities. We aim to challenge students through a curriculum that deepens understanding while focusing on building positive relationships and having high expectations for all.
Students have the opportunity to participate and be recognized in a variety of ways outside of the regular classroom: Battle of the Books, Learning Fair, Talent Show, Math 24, and Southern Lakes Anthology writing and drawing. Students are also recognized at monthly assemblies for academic achievement and positive behaviors (PBIS). All staff and students follow the PBIS slogan "The Waterloo Way " and we focus on being responsible, respectful, and ready to learn. We practice and model these behaviors on a daily basis. Our goal with PBIS is to maximize student engagement and to focus on positive interactions between all staff and students.
