Principal's Message

Welcome to Waterloo High School!

I am excited and honored to serve as the Waterloo High School Principal where we prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s challenges!

We are a small school that offers many opportunities for students in an extremely safe environment and a welcoming atmosphere. These opportunities include the core classes as well as world languages, technology education, business education, agriculture, music, art, physical education, health, online electives, mentorships, youth apprenticeships, and dual-credit options. Waterloo High School has been a recipient of the Wisconsin Advanced Placement Advisory Council Pacesetter Award for five consecutive years. This award is a result of our school's student participation and performance on the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Exams.

Waterloo High School also offers diverse experiences in athletics and activities, which include Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Patriot's Club, Young and Old Stick Together program (partnering program with the elderly), Student Council, Solo & Ensemble, Drama/Musicals, Forensics, FFA, Visual Arts Classics, and National Honor Society.

Waterloo School District has an outstanding scholarship program with the Class of 2021 receiving approximately $654,000 in scholarship money.

Shawn Bartelt

High School Principal

Shawn Bartelt picture

Shawn and his wife have two young children. They enjoy spending time together as a family by going to parks, traveling, and being outdoors. When not at school Shawn enjoys running, doing crossfit, landscaping, reading, and anything sports related.

Shawn started with the Waterloo School District in 2017. He was previously the PreK-8 Principal before taking over from Mr. Donner as the high school principal in 2021. Before coming to Waterloo, Shawn was an Associate Principal at Beaver Dam High School, spending five years of his career there. Prior to working in Beaver Dam, Shawn was a Physical Education, Health Education, and Adaptive Physical Education teacher at Bartels Middle School in Portage where he also coached Varsity football.

Shawn has a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Shawn is passionate about the growth, both academically and socially, for all students. Please do not hesitate to contact Shawn with any questions or concerns.
