2024-2025 School Year Open Enrollment Information

Wisconsin's inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend school districts other than the one in which they reside. Parents must submit application forms to the non-resident district during the open enrollment period for the next school year.

Who can apply?

Any Wisconsin resident in 4K to grade 12 may apply to attend a nonresident school district under the open enrollment program. However, a child may transfer to a nonresident school district for early childhood education or 4K only if the child's resident school district offers the same type of program and only if the child is eligible for that program in the resident school district.

When can parents apply?

The regular open enrollment application period for the 2024-25 school year begins on February 5, 2024, and ends at 4:00 pm on April 30, 2024. The best way to apply is online at the DPI Open Enrollment page, and by clicking on the "Click Here to Apply" link.

How to Apply

  • The recommended method of applying for open enrollment is through the on-line application process at DPI Open Enrollment link.


  • You may submit a paper application to the nonresident school district (the district where you are applying). The application must be received in the district prior to the deadline. A postmark does not meet this requirement.

Non-Discrimination Statement
